Hi.  I would appreciate being directed to whomever can provide an explanation for the very steep annual increases over the past three years for my personal vehicle insurance.  The plate rate on my 1988 Honda Accord rose 42% from 2012 to 2014, including an 18% increase from 2012 to 2013.  I was told by an SGI agent that this exorbitant increase was likely due to predominant use of this age of vehicle by young drivers, but I am sceptical that the small number of vehicles of this age in the province would make for an statistical base for assessment.

I would appreciate this message being forwarded to someone who can provide an explanation, or point to an appeal process.

I'd like to get some feedback on how my insurance rates for my 1988 Honda Accord have been going up approximate $100 a year for at least the last 3 years and all I was told by SGI was that we'll have to do with the accident rate although I can't imagine. I need an explanation of how that could those statistics could be generated given a very small number of those cars are still available. Anyway I appreciate some guidance on who I should talk to on this. Thanks."

"Hi. I disagree totally with the rate increase. I drive a 27 year old car and I don't use SGI Services. I have own mechanic and I haven't yet. I can't afford to be paying that much for an older car.

I am apalled, that in the seven years I have owned, insured, and maintained my 2006 GMC 2500HD pickup in Saskatchewan, that the insurance has INCREASED beyond what ANY reasonable competitive insurance system would possibly consider charging. I have a clean abstract, which keeps me employed, and yet, despite their increases, they seem to forget, the majority of GOOD drivers already at the top of their good driver's discount, are not receiving MORE of a discount, even though the rates are going up. I suspect there are many good drivers out there who are receiving a sizeable increase to their basic insurance rates even though the majority of us have not FILED any claims, been in any expensive incidents, have clean driving records. If the autofund is that short of money that you keep increasing the base price of insurance, then administering a "discount" for a good driving record seems like a farce to me. As far as I'm concerned your insurance system should do far more to offset those of us who have been victimized by your rate increases, having not filed for claims in years. Good drivers are the ones penalized by your across the board increases.. NOT the ones who have a habit of claiming damages for every little scratch. Furthermore hail and flood damage should be removed from the autofund entirely, because those damages alone are incredibly expensive acts of God, which should be optional like on a package policy, not lumped into what SGI seems to think we "need" in a basic and affordable insurance for mandatory minimum. You need to start stripping down the coverage to pl/pd, and stop messing around with our BASIC rates. Everything else you add to the picture, (like covering RV's) should be left to private insurance companies. These increases are unacceptable. With your proposed increases, I'm now effectively paying over 200 dollars more on my vehicle than the day I bought it.. and it's seven years old. There is no excuse for this. Increase the good driver's discount, and stop paying damages to RV's out of the autofund! Separate the property damage and acts of God from basic insurance.. most drivers don't need it, and certainly, don't deserve to be paying unaffordable rates for pl/pd.

There has been absolutely no public notification if there have been public meetings for citizens to voice their opinion. It is the Panel's job to ensure reasonable opportunity exist for the public to voice their consent or opposition to such increases. The very low turnouts at Rate hearings/meetings etc is an indication of the poor job the Rate Review Panel is doing in informing, educating, and involving the public. For this reason, the proposed increase amounts to indirect taxation without consent.

"Yes I'd like to explain about the the rate increase on the government insurance for vehicles. Mine went up a hundred dollars last year and a hundred and twenty dollars this year. If this is a continue focus of ___ government. We're gonna look at the boat and somebody else in the next time.

I just wrote a letter to the CEO of SGI,regarding the latest rate increase that they are requesting. Their response, was to cover the 10% increase that body shops are demanding. And I get that! Why not mandate the use of winter tires in Saskatchewan. I use winter tires, yet I get no discount. Instead, I get nailed with an increase, simply because people here refuse to use winter tires. I just don't get it! Why not create a pro-active approach, instead of a re-active approach. Or, offer me a discount because I am a safe winter driver.Maybe some day. when it gets privatized, they will treat the responsible drivers who mitigate the chances of a winter collision. Wake up SGI and follow Quebec's mandatory use of winter tires. Then maybe other provinces will follow. Please take this seriously. Lives are at risk. If you care, you will simply refuse this increase, and deal with the real problem.

I drive both a motorbike and car, this increase is actually a 6.4% on my bike since SGI thinks that motorcycles caused the shortfall in their profits.Of All the items that bikers thought should be done the panel ignored most and reworded others to suit themselves. Glad you listened but sorry that you really didn't pay attention. Sent from my iPad

Dear SRRP,

For 18 months now I have been following the processes and tactics of SGI.  Last year SGI made a big deal about singling out the Motorcycle community and how it was costing the Auto Fund some “mythical” number that they come up with.  They released several news articles which more or less put the Motorcycle community at direct odds with everyone else in the Auto Fund.

Now this year….they release a new proposal and “treat” the Motorcycle community like everyone else. <

Let’s not forget that they completely ignored the wishes of the SRRP and a large consumer base and increased the rates of the Motorcycle community for the 4th time, against everyone’s objections.

I will put this as clearly as I can.  No more rate increases to the Motorcycle class.  Year after year they increase rates and do very little to change their ways.  If they are the governing body responsible for licensing this class then they are responsible to make sure all drivers are educated and people riding bikes are sufficiently trained.  For years they have ignored the pleas of the community and we are now seeing the result of their laziness.

I do realize they are implanting some changes this year but they have leaned on this community far too much in the recent years and it’s time they accept their own responsibility for this situation.

I’m not sure if the rate increase across the board is justified but considering the gap between what it costs to insure my truck vs. my bike, there is no way an increase of any kind is justifiable to the motorcycle community.

>I also have one general comment towards the SRRP.  How is it that the SRRP is the voice of the community and yet the SRRP does not have the authority to veto SGI applications?  This process is broken.  If we come out as a community and the SRRP supports the public we should have the power to turn back these applications or at minimum have influence in negotiating them.  Do we write our MLA?

Book larger venues for Regina and Saskatoon this year I think you are going to need it.

Not happy with this motorcycle cash grab. Watch who's pocket you are picking. We vote and we are not happy

This is still not a fair increase. As the Provincial Economy moves to a User Pay type of governing by the Feds, the people who have the bad driving records or those of obvious risk should pay for how they score on demerit points. In Alberta with private insurance, I would pay $800 per year for my motorcycle, here, I was at $1428.00 and now it will be higher yet. This is a totally unfair system and it is worse that we are getting it from this Sask Party Government whom were against the socialist way it was before they came to power. I nor anyone else should have to pay for someone else’s accidents! Motorcycles or motor vehicles!

"Good afternoon the Rate Review panels you have not taken into consideration any of the proposals by rage I am sick and tired of all of these rate increases on motorcycles we paid 30% 2 years ago last year we have another 15% entries and this year we're looking on another 6.7% that's all on top of all the increases that we have prior to that this is the total mismanagement of the STI and the way they have licensed then ensured motorcycle over the past years and then all of the sudden you feel that riders out there today have to pay for all the mistakes would have been made the new riders out there with no training and no restrictions on side the motorcycles rage has some the proposals to solve some of that think that has to be put into place. I'm a 38 to 40 year old rider accident free I have not seen any help or any reward for my safe driving over that number of years I keep paying and paying and paying and I keep paying for all these new riders been out there that are buy big horse power bikes no experience and into accident than I'm I'm on a hook I'm getting tired of this."

I've had enough of these rate increases on motorcycles. I've been a motorcycle rider for 38 accident free years and tired of paying for all the new untrained motorcycle riders. Get a learners license the same way you money out of an ATM and then go buy a high speed motorcycle, get in an accident and I have to pay for that. Tired of it and have checked into licensing my motorcycle in Alberta and if will be half of what SGI is charging me for the same coverage.

SGI just got a rate increase last year. There needs to be some kind of limitation as to the number of times they can keep coming back to the panel and requesting increases. Since they just has an increase they should not be allowed to request another one.

You know, after SaskPower and SGI get their rate approvals you should lock your doors for a while so I might be able to avoid going to the food bank!

"Hi I don't agree with the work here. I don't agree with you raising the rates you got money from the government millions of dollars. You should have been using that more wisely then you have. So I'm totally against you raising the rates as you have requested."

SGI already makes enough profit. I drive an older (1981) car because thats all I can afford. I don't have a nice high paying government job. I work for a living. I just had my insurance go up $100.00 because you did't want to charge the motorcycle owners like you shoud have. Now you want to increase it again? What did you do with all your profits from last year? Its time to get rid of SGI and let private insurance into the province. Give the people of Saskatchewan a choice. Stop screwing the poor and start charging the rich. If the want to drive $50,000.00 plus vehicles, charge them more, not me. I can't afford it anymore. I would like to have a reduced rate for older vehicles because thats all we can afford to drive to get to are low paying jobs.
