Panel announces review of SaskEnergy and SaskPower rate applications
The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel will review rate applications received from SaskEnergy and SaskPower earlier this month. The SaskEnergy request includes a decrease in the Commodity Rate and an increase in the Delivery Service rate, with both proposed to take effect November 1, 2016. The Panel is to present its report on the SaskEnergy application by September 16, 2016.
SaskPower is requesting a five per cent increase to take effect July 1, 2016, followed by a further five per cent increase on January 1, 2017. The provincial Cabinet has implemented the July 1 rate increase on an interim basis, pending any recommendations in the Panel’s report, which is due by November 7, 2016.
The rate applications and other supporting documents will be posted at the Panel’s website, www.saskratereview.ca, as they become available. The Panel welcomes comments or questions from the public by:

All methods of communicating with the Panel, including dates and locations of public meetings, will be advertised. The Panel will also commission independent technical studies of the rate applications, bringing expert outside opinions to its reviews. As part of its review the Panel provides the government with an opinion regarding the fairness and reasonableness of each rate request, while balancing the interests of the customer, the Crown corporation and the public. The provincial Cabinet makes the final decision on the rate requests.
